GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Several local agencies are responding to the damages left from Helene in Western NC and are doing all they can to help.

Among the many counties reaching out to the Western side of the state, here in Pitt County, first responders will be making there way over as well. Partners like Greenville Fire and Rescue, as well as, the Greenville Police Department have coordinated some donation drops.

Greenville Utilities has sent electric crews and ECU Health took a medical ambulance bus to assist those in need. Powerlines are down, debris has filled open areas from flooding and people are desperate for things as simple as water.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is now planning to send members to Buncombe County Tuesday morning to help in any way they can, especially after what these counties have done in the past to help Eastern North Carolina during Hurricane Floyd.

“They stepped up and came from everywhere. And so, that’s what we are giving back this week and next week and however long it takes,” Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance said.

“I previously came from City of Washington Police Department, so we’re used to flooding where you go into just deep water, rescuing people and things like that,” Pitt County Detective Christopher Hobbs said.

Members from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office will be bringing supplies from their own donation drop-off and join other law enforcement agencies from across the state who have also made there way to help.

If you want to take part, there are donation drop-offs located all throughout the community for things such as toiletries, non-perishable food items and bottled water.
