WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) –The animal shelter in Washington is stepping up to help pets affected by Hurricane Helene in the Western part of the state.

The shelter is now accepting donations of pet food, bedding and other supplies to be sent to shelters overwhelmed by the storm. People in the community are encouraged to drop off donations at the shelter throughout the week to make sure pets in Western NC receive the care they need. They say every donation, no matter how small, will make a big difference.

“It’s a devastating time for that entire region and one thing we’re looking at here, not only do we have people going through tremendous struggles right now, but we also have pets who may be with their families who may be lost, maybe stranded and we also have animal control facilities in that region and we need resources during this time.” Beaufort County Communications Director Brandon Tester said.

For more information on how you can help or find a full list of needed supplies, visit the shelter’s website .
