MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — The Crystal Coast Water Rescue Team is back in Eastern N.C. after helping Helene victims.

That team is made up of people from fire and EMS departments in Morehead City, Newport and Washington. Seven people from Morehead City went to the Western part of the state, including Battalion Chief Brandon Doshier.

The Water Rescue Team formed after Hurricane Florence. Doshier said the rivers and reservoirs out West make the water funnel differently, which causes a lot of destruction. They were accustomed to storms in Eastern N.C., but this hurricane gave him a new perspective.

“You’re pretty much on your own. You learn how to survive with what you got until resources can come to you. So, total devastation in some parts is definitely what I would call it,” Doshier said.

The Morehead City Fire Department is still accepting donations. You can drop items off at Station Two from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Monday.

They’re looking for things such as first-aid supplies, things to help the elderly and baby supplies.
