WILSON, N.C. (WNCT) — Among the devastation caused by hurricane Helene, livestock and animals have been misplaced.

With that, there came a need for animal feed and equipment. Cavietta Quarterhorse and Cattle Company in Wilson were looking for a way to help. On Thursday, they loaded supplies onto a truck and sent them to the Western North Carolina Livestock Center. There, supplies will be distributed to those in need.

“A lot of those people that are up there, they don’t just have on or two horses. they have several horses or several cows,” said Gracie Torres, co-owner of Cavvietta.

They don’t know how many animals have been rescued.

“I felt a little guilty because I feel like I can’t do a whole lot. We don’t have any trucks that are road-worthy for long distances at this time, so I was devasted when I knew we couldn’t haul supplies,” said Torres.

One of their riding students came forward with an offer to help haul things to the mountains.

“We have opened up our facility to anybody who needs to have a safe place to land. But we haven’t had any hits on that yet.”
