KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers provided updates of law enforcement officers’ trip to Madison County to assist with Helene cleanup efforts.

Sheriff Rogers said he and his crew worked two 14-hour days and have some more work ahead of them. He said all are doing well and they are working in an area where creeks flooded and are helping to look for people who have not been heard from since the storm.

Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood requested Rogers and his crew to stay through Sunday. Three of them will be coming back Sunday while others have volunteered to stay through next Friday. Sheriff Rogers said two more deputies will be heading to Madison County to work through next Friday as well.

“I have worked several hurricanes and floods and have never witnessed the amount of damage and loss of life,” Sheriff Rogers said. “Please continue to pray for our Western brothers and sisters.”
