Greenville-based task force team continues carrying out emergency operations in WNC

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) –  North Carolina Task Force 10, based out of Greenville, continued to conduct emergency operations in western North Carolina.

The team, based with the City of Greenville Fire/Rescue Department, has been performing search and rescue operations in some of the hardest hit areas of mountainous western North Carolina.

The Type II group has been specially trained to deal with emergency situations and natural disasters, like the ongoing tragedy in the wake of the historic flooding from Helene.

According to a Facebook post from Greenville Fire/Rescue on Saturday, NCTF 10 members recently performed search and rescue missions around Lake James.  The lake is a large reservoir near the border of Burke and McDowell Counties, west of Morganton.

The group performed operations that covered more than 30 miles of shoreline around that lake.

According to a news release from Governor Roy Cooper’s office, a total of 53 search and rescue teams from North Carolina and beyond have responded to western North Carolina since the flooding disaster. The NCTF 10 members are among the 1,600 men and women from similar teams that have assisted with emergency operations in storm-ravaged areas, the Governor’s office said.
