DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies from Duplin County continued assisting numerous agencies with disaster response in storm-ravaged western North Carolina on Saturday.

A Facebook post from the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Saturday revealed heart-wrenching scenes in the wake of historic flooding that occurred over one week ago.

Sheriff Stratton Stokes, in conjunction with the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Statewide Disaster Assistance Network, assembled a group of deputies earlier this week to respond to the ongoing disaster.

“The devastation and damage is unimaginable, but the strength and unity of our community and people working side by side during this time is truly inspiring,” the post stated.

Photos on the Facebook page showed major devastation in the western North Carolina towns of Marshall and Hot Springs, near the Tennessee state line.
