TARBORO, N.C. (WNCT)  — Tarboro Police launched an investigation after shots were fired near a carnival Saturday night.

According to a Facebook post from the department, multiple shots were fired in the area of Wilson Street near Office Street around 7:30 p.m. Those shots were discharged in the parking lot of Abrams BBQ.

“At the time of the incident, a carnival was ongoing across the street, which resulted in a mass panic. Fortunately, with the assistance of law enforcement, numerous people were able to safely and swiftly exit the area,” police said.

No injuries had been reported, but investigators found property damage from the gunfire.

The investigation is active, and Tarboro Police asked anyone with information to call the department at 252-641-4247.
