GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Sunday was the first Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention walk at the Greenville Town Commons. The event raised awareness for suicide prevention, and let Eastern North Carolina know the resources available when going through difficult times.

Joseph Burke started this walk in honor of his nephew, who lost his battle to suicide in 2018.

“ Suicide is preventable. People just got to know where to go to get help. And a lot of times they think they can do it alone,” Burke said. “And sometimes, that’s not enough. And we have enough resources around here that can help them get the help that they need before they get to that point.”
