CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Members of FEMA’s Disaster Survivor Assistance Team are still hosting in person events in certain parts of the Upstate this weekend.

The FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Team will be at the Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center, at 213 Alma St., Gaffney, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

DSA crews primarily focus on addressing the needs of underrepresented populations that may be hard to reach by traditional channels. Their mission is to assess and report critical and emerging disaster needs to FEMA leadership for decision-making purposes.

DSA team members will meet with anyone who comes to the EOC on those days, pre-register them for disaster assistance, review applications, provide basic information about application status and other eligible assistance, and collect documents for case files.

Pre-registering should expedite processing through the FEMA Recovery Center, expected to open in Cherokee County soon.

Another DSA team is also at McCallister Square in Greenville today until 5 p.m.. The team is scheduled to be there throughout the week.
