GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to do its part in helping out those who have been affected by Hurricane Helene across our state.

Monday morning, the sheriff’s office sent around a dozen deputies with thousands of dollars in supplies to relieve the 12 other deputies that were stationed in Western North Carolina over the weekend.

Sheriff Paula Dance said that the deputies that were there this weekend will return home Tuesday after a busy weekend helping deliver supplies using a helicopter to reach those places in need in the mountains.

“We can’t even imagine the devastation, starting to get cold in the mountains so we are using donations like coats and blankets, these people have lost everything so whatever we can use helps,” Sheriff Dance said.

The shipment went out Monday at 8:30 a.m. The sheriff’s office is expecting another shipment of supplies worth more than $20,000 soon that they will also deploy to those in need.
