JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Naval Medical Center at Camp Lejeune is vaccinating its staff.

They will be offering shots for all Tricare family members and retirees. Those giving the shots are Corpsmen and go through specific training every year to understand what they’re doing. Michelle Rizzo-Pelley is an environmental health officer who said the flu is very contagious and can lead to serious health effects.

“For some people, it can lead to hospitalized action. It could lead to death,” she said. “So, it’s very important that everybody protect themselves as much as they can and vaccination is one of the most important ways to prevent influenza from spreading.”

The clinic will be at Wallace Creek Fitness Center, on the base, starting next Wednesday, Oct. 16th.
