GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Greenville City Council is considering directing its share of the national opioid settlement funds to Pitt County.

They said it’s to strengthen efforts in fighting addiction. Greenville is set to get nearly $1.9 million over the next 18 years, while Pitt County will get close to $16 million.

Officials said this collaboration could make a greater impact on addressing the opioid crisis in our area.

“The way we saw it was by collaborating we can avoid duplication of our efforts and address the opioid crisis by coordinating our efforts where we can make more of an impact locally and regionally,” Public Information Officer for the City of Greenville Brock Letchworth said.

The council is expected to officially vote on the plan in November.
