WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Students in Winterville took part in National Walk and Roll to School Day.

The town of Winterville participated with W.H. Robinson Elementary and A.G. Cox Middle School. Students from both schools walked, biked or rode their scooters to school Wednesday morning. This was a way for children to practice active mobility on the way to school.

“Kids like, love being outdoors. They love being on bikes, getting the wiggles out before school,” Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the town of Winterville Dr. Katherine Dale said.

There were two different routes for students, one for those who walked and the other for those on wheels.

Safety was important for an event like this. There were chaperones, free helmets for students and reflective slap bracelets.

The Winterville Police Department escorted the children who participated in the day.
