OREGON INLET, N.C. (WNCN) — Four people were rescued from a disabled boat near Oregon Inlet Monday, the United States Coast Guard said.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a report that four people were aboard an anchored 27-foot vessel that was taking on water in rough seas.

Two 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews were launched from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet. According to the Coast Guard, the waters had “breaking-bar conditions of up to 8-foot surf.”

Both crews arrived at the scene of the disabled vessel. One crew rescued the four on board, while the other towed the boat over the bar. A commercial salvage crew then brought both the people and the vessel to shore safely.

“Our crews continuously train in a variety of conditions, similar to these, so we are capable of ensuring safe and swift rescues during maritime emergencies,” Chief Petty Officer Adam Preiser, executive petty officer of USCG Station Oregon Inlet, said. “We encourage all mariners to implement safe boating practices such as checking the weather before getting underway, verifying your vessel has all required safety gear, as well as having a contingency plan in case of an emergency.”

Salvage crew? Does that mean the boat will be scrapped?

They had no business being out there as rough as it is right now. I'm very happy they were rescued!
