GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A Greenville man bought a $10 scratch-off on Wednesday morning for fun, not knowing it would lead him to a real prize.

David Boyd Jr. of Greenville bought the ticket because he had fond members of playing the Loteria game. He ended up walking away with those memories as well as a $1 million top prize win. When he arrived at the lottery headquarters to collect his winnings, he had two options. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.

He chose the latter and after required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $429,003.

Boyd says the win means his family can now afford to buy a house and set some aside for his kids college fund.
