BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) — An Ayden man pled guilty for drug trafficking in the September session of Carteret County Superior Court.

Marvin Jelani Murphy, 41 years old, pled guilty to trafficking in fentanyl. He received an active sentence of 90-120 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction and is set to pay a fine of $100,000.

Detectives with the Morehead City Police Department and the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office made controlled purchases from Murphy during the summer of 2022, including a buy of an ounce of heroin for $1,000. Warrants were obtained and Murphy was arrested shortly thereafter.

The heroin was tested by the NC State Crime Lab and showed that it contained 27.99 grams of fentanyl, 0.1 gram shy of being the highest level trafficking weight.
