    Man charged in car break-in investigation, found with gun on NC State’s campus: Police

    RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — One armed man was arrested early Wednesday morning in a reported series of attempts to break into cars on NC State’s campus, police say.

    According to an official with NC State police, officers responded around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to a caller who said three people were pulling on the door handles of cars that were parked in the Sullivan lot near the school’s baseball stadium.

    Officers said they were able to locate them based on descriptions from witnesses. It was then they arrested one man, Romelo Alston, 18 of Raleigh, and charged Alston with the following:

    • Misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle
    • Misdemeanor concealed carry weapons violation
    • Felony possession of a weapon on educational property
    • Felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number

    Alston was found with a semi-automatic handgun when he was arrested, according to the police official.

    A secured bond for Alston was set at $25,000 while he remains in custody at the Wake County Detention Center.

    According to police, the other two individuals have not been charged at this time. This case is still under investigation.
