HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A recent Q&A session on Tuesday brought some insight into the unauthorized drone incursions over Langley Air Force Base in Hampton in December 2023.

Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said the number of incursions changed on any given day but didn’t appear to show hostile intent. If needed, commanders had authority to strike down any threat.

“Given that it’s on US soil there is another level of coordination within the interagency that needs to take place,” Singh said. “But the commander absolutely had his or her authorities to engage any systems that are a threat to the base.”

At this time, Singh said the department is analyzing whether they posed a threat, and they don’t know where the drones came from.
