RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A man who is accused of threatening aid workers at a FEMA distribution site appeared in court Wednesday morning.

William Jacob Parsons was arrested Saturday after deputies got a report a man with a rifle had made comments about harming FEMA workers working in the area of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.

Parsons was charged with a misdemeanor count of going armed to the terror of the public and was bonded out over the weekend.

During his initial court appearance, Parsons requested and was assigned a public defender, and his next appearance was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12.
