PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — During a science lesson at Pamlico County Middle School, a sling psychrometer, which is used to measure humidity, was broken, releasing a very small amount of mercury.

Following emergency protocol, the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Department and Pamlico Emergency Management were contacted immediately after. In turn, they requested assistance from the Cherry Point Hazmat Team who responded to handle cleanup and disposal.

Due to the quick responses, the situation was quickly fixed with no students having exposure.
