GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Local One Direction fans are still in shock from hearing the news of Liam Payne’s death Wednesday. Payne was one of the five members of the boy band.

Payne was found dead in Buenos Aires, Argentina after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel.

Kassidy and Brinley Shepler, students at East Carolina University, said the band was a huge part of their childhood.

“Hearing that one of them died was kind of like, part of a like, part of our childhood, like dying. And it’s just like crazy because you’re so young. So, it’s really crazy,” they said. “I was saying that it’s crazy that one of the members of one of the biggest boy bands of our generation passed away before I even graduated college or got married and had kids. It’s just absolutely insane.”
