    Goldsboro man arrested on robbery and assault charges

    GOLDSBORO, N.C (WNCT) — Law enforcement officers with the Goldsboro Police Department arrested a man on multiple robbery charges.

    On October 10, officers responded to reports of a larceny at the Family Dollar on East Ash Street. A suspect entered the store and left with several packs of cigarettes without paying. When the suspect was confronted he sprayed an employee with pepper spray, fleeing afterward.

    On October 11, officers responded to reports of a robbery and stabbing at the Family Dollar on Wayne Memorial Drive. The suspect entered the store and proceeded to spray an employee with bug spray. The suspect then assaulted a female employee while trying to get into the store’s safe. Another employee attempted to intervene, getting stabbed by the suspect in the process. The suspect fled without any merchandise or money. Both employees sustained non life threatening injuries.

    On October 16, officers responded to the scene of Boost Mobile on East Ash Street as reports of a robbery came in. The suspect entered the store brandishing a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee gave the suspect money and ran to the back room. The suspect followed the employee attempting to pepper spray them before fleeing the scene.

    After investigating all three incidents the Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau obtained warrants for Odell Larry Sheffield Jr. on October 18. Officers located Sheffield later that same day and arrested him. Sheffield was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, common law robbery, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent kill inflicting serious injury, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault of a government official and assault on a law enforcement officer with physical injury.

    Sheffield was taken to the Wayne County Jail and is awaiting his first court appearance.
