BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU Football hasn’t won a season opener in their last four seasons, so Tigers head coach Brian Kelly hopes that the losing streak has given his players the experience they need to stop that run.

The last time LSU won their season opener? They won a National Championship (2019).

LSU lost the last two season openers to the Florida State Seminoles. The season before that, it was a loss in the Rose Bowl vs UCLA, and in the COVID season, LSU lost its opener to Mississippi State as the defending champions.

Now, this year, it’s the Southern California Trojans at a neutral site in Las Vegas to open the 2024 season.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly told the media he’s banking on some of those experiences in season openers that he believes will be the difference this time around.

“Those games they played versus Florida State, they’re going to help them in this opener,” Kelly said on Monday. “There’s a lot of guys (on the current roster) that have those battle scars.”
