    Wolfe County crews search for missing man in Daniel Boone National Forest

    CAMPTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team is searching for a missing man.

    In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, the organization said 48-year-old Scott Allen Hern was last seen by his family on July 4 in Ironton, Ohio. However, his vehicle was seen Saturday at the Tower Rock Trail parking area along Highway 715 in the Red River Gorge.

    Authorities described Hern as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 275 pounds, with light brown hair and green eyes.

    In a Wednesday morning update, the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team said it received a tip about Hern asking for directions to Sal Branch Falls within the wilderness area of Daniel Boone National Forest.

    “We sent a group of 11 searchers into the area last night and searched until after midnight but we were unable to locate him,” the organization said. “This is a very rugged off trail area to search and visibility was compromised by darkness and fog.”

    Crews are asking the public to stay clear of the Gladie Visitor Center and Osborne Bend parking areas on Wednesday for search teams to utilize the parking.
