Nothing gives you a boost of serotonin quite like a rom-com. And you can’t think of the film genre without thinking about How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days . The 2003 movie, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey may be 21 years old, but to us it’s timeless. The same could be said for the actors as both shared they would be open to a sequel. Keep reading to hear what they said and whether Andie and Ben will have another chance to steal our hearts.
Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are open to a 'How to Lose a Guy' sequel
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was released over 20 years ago, and its male and female leads aren’t opposed to reuniting for a second movie. Both Hudson and McConaughey have discussed returning to their roles as Andie and Ben.
Hudson said, "I think they’re always thinking about that,” when asked about a potential sequel in a recent Watch What Happens Live interview with Andy Cohen. The script is a key factor and that’s what would sway Hudson’s decision.
“All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script," she told Cohen. "I think we're both totally open, it has just never happened."
In an interview with E!’s Daily Pop , back in 2020, McConaughey said he would “possibly” return for another installment.
"I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel. And that was a really good one. As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one,” he said.
Not only was it a fan-favorite film, but McConaughey sings its praises as well. "People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit."
What to know about ' How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days'
Composure Magazine columnist Andie (Hudson) pitches an article idea in honor of her friend Michelle’s (Kathryn Hahn) breakup. She decides to write the piece titled “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and looks for behaviors or motives that often make men end the relationship.
Who does she test these on? None other than advertising executive Ben (McConaughey). Unknown to Andie, Ben has his own bet going with coworkers to make any woman fall in love over the same 10-day span. To no one’s surprise, the pair end up falling in love by the end of the movie.
Hudson has previously mentioned a sequel in 2023
2023 was the film’s 20-year anniversary and Hudson mentioned a sequel in an interview with Vanity Fair. "People always ask us [about a sequel] but there’s nothing in the works."
She added, "I love working with Matthew, so I’m sure at some point we’ll work together again." Even though there’s no sequel happening right now, Hudson still imagined a future for her and McConaughey’s characters.
"My hope is that [Andie and Ben] are happy, they’ve got a bunch of kids, they got married, and they’re still playing Bullshit with his parents. If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be some conflict in there somewhere,” she said.
This would be the duo’s third movie together
Besides starring in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days , Hudson and McConaughey teamed up again in 2008 for Fool’s Gold. While shooting both of these movies, the two spent a total of 10 months together.
