It’s always sad when beloved TV series come to an end, especially if their stories are unfinished, characters have so much left to do or there is so much more to explore in a given premise. Whether a cancellation or a natural ending to the show, saying goodbye to characters and their storylines can be difficult.

But in this new era of TV reboots — which have taken a new approach to an old favorite or picked things up where they left off —fans have had the opportunity to see their favorite characters on-screen again and find out more about their storylines. Luckily for viewers, many of their favorite shows have given a reboot a try with quite a few successes. Check out these 8 series that have come back for a second act!

    1. Charmed (1998 to 2006)

    Reboot: Charmed (2018 to 2022)

Although it is not quite the story of the original Halliwell sisters, the Charmed reboot was an entertaining one. The 2018 series follows sisters Mel and Maggie Vera, who are dealing with the sudden death of their mother when an older sister appears on their doorstep. And when they find out they are powerful witches, the sisters have to figure out how to deal with their newly discovered powers.

    2. Hawaii Five-O (1968-1980)

    Reboot: Hawaii Five-0 (2010 to 2020)

Hawaii Five-0 was a new take on the classic series of the same name. Starring Alex O’Loughlin (previously the star of the vampire series Moonlight ) as the new Detective Steve McGarrett, this series follows his squad’s efforts to eliminate crime in Hawaii. This reboot series ran from 2010 to 2020.

    3. Full House (1987-1995)

    Reboot: Fuller House (2016-2020)

Fans of the original 1987 sitcom got to see the Tanner kids all grown up with families of their own in this reboot series. While the original followed Danny, Jesse and Joey, Fuller House follows DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy Gibbler as DJ navigates raising three children after the loss of her own husband.

Twin Peaks: The Return picks up 25 years after the original series, where residents of a small town were shocked with the murder of their homecoming queen. The 2017 reboot follows up with the investigation of Laura Palmer’s murder.

    5. Roseanne (1988-1997)

Reboot: Roseanne / The Conners (2018-Present)

The reboot of Roseanne picks up with the Conner family in 2018 as they deal with the daily struggles of life as a middle-class family. The original series came to an end in 1997 and rebooted in 2018, only to be canceled after one season.

It was rebooted once again, but this time as The Conners. The original series star, Roseanne Barr, was let go from the show after writing and posting racist tweets. The Conners addressed Roseanne’s absence by having her die off camera, and successfully continued by focusing on the rest of the family.
