Eating a mysterious fruit on the ground that might be poisonous? Most people would say, “As if!” But not Alicia Silverstone. The actress — best known for her work as Cher Horowitz in the hit 1995 movie Clueless — recently went viral after she picked up a mysterious orange fruit out of someone’s garden, then dropped it on the ground before eventually eating it.

In the viral video posted to social media, Silverstone says, “OK, I've discovered something that I can't figure out what it is, and I need your help. I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not.”

The Clueless star then drops the mysterious fruit and pans to what looks to be a nearby tomato garden before continuing. “And if I bite it — I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this. But it’s almost like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is?”

What did Alicia Silverstone eat? All about a Jerusalem Chery

A Jerusalem Cherry – or a Solanum pseudocapsicum as it is technically called — is a small orange and red fruit that often looks like a tomato and is reported to taste like one.

According to the National Library of Medicine, though, they can be quite harmful to both animals and humans .
