Generations of Grace: How an Angel From Her Childhood Comforted Her Throughout Her Life

When I was about 2 years old, my mom couldn’t get me to fall asleep in my crib because I kept saying “Hi” and waving to “someone” who wasn’t there, which I had never done before.

My mother lay down next to my crib to encourage me to sleep and suddenly saw a glowing woman’s face staring down at her! The woman had a huge ear-to-ear smile, and my mom didn’t know what to think as the face faded away.

About 10 years later, I remember looking through old family albums at my grandparents’ house. Most of our relatives had died in the Holocaust, and I always wondered about who they were.

As I paged through the pictures, I stopped when I came across a photo of a teenage girl sitting in a chair. I recognized her. I told my mom that I was pretty sure she was the face we saw, because she had that same wide smile. My mother agreed and said she was a cousin who had died in a concentration camp when she was around 15. Her name was Rosien. It turned out my grandmother had also experienced a vision of her face.

Many years later, when I was about 49 and my mom had a few weeks to live due to an illness, my son told me that my teenage daughter was scared to go in my bedroom because she had seen a face in there! I asked my daughter to give me a description of the face—it exactly matched the one that my mom, my grandmother and I had seen.

I explained to my daughter that the “face” was our family’s guardian angel, who we had seen before. I was so comforted knowing our angel was still around to help my mother cross over three weeks later. I even got to tell my mother how her granddaughter was the fourth generation to see that beautiful glowing face, which gave her much peace.
