Kristen Bell Talks New Netflix Show ‘Nobody Wants This’ and the Best Advice She Ever Got…From Cher! (EXCLUSIVE)

From voicing Princess Anna in the hit Disney film Frozen to her memorable turns as Veronica Mars or the title character in the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall , actress Kristen Bell has embodied many memorable roles. But the one she cherishes most is being a mom.

The Michigan-native and her husband, actor Dax Shepard , share two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9. “I tell my kids all the time, ‘The best thing I ever did with my life is have you…and I'm a movie star,’” she tells Woman’s World during our recent cover interview ( buy your copy here! ) with a self-effacing laugh. “The other thing I try to tell them every day is, ‘Do you know why I love you so much?’ and they know the answer is to respond with, ‘Because I'm lovable.’ My purpose as far as raising my girls is over every other priority in my life.”

Kristen Bell talks new Netflix comedy series 'Nobody Wants This'

These days the accomplished actress/author/philanthropist is juggling the busyness of back-to-school with starring in the new Netflix comedy series Nobody Wants This , for which she serves as executive producer.

“I have not been as excited about a show in a while. This is a very, very special show. I think that people are in the mood for a rom-com,” says Kristen, who also recently starred in the Amazon Prime comedy film The People We Hate at the Wedding .

“I feel like this show is such a modern take on romance,” she says of Nobody Wants This . “It addresses everything, from the mundane things like the perils of dating apps to more serious things, like what it actually means for people with different backgrounds and outlooks on life to bridge those differences in the name of a true, meaningful love.”

Nobody Wants This debuts September 26 with Kristen starring as Joanne, an outspoken agnostic woman, who becomes involved with an unconventional rabbi played by Adam Brody . “The universal love story is what appealed to me most,” Kristen explains. “I thought it was funny and edgy and thoughtful. I like the idea of exploring similarities and differences and watching humans work through those differences and similarities. I'm of the personal belief that there's a lot more similarities between people than there are differences.”

Kristen Bell on making family her priority

Kristen says there was yet another thing that appealed to her about taking this new role. “I can't function in the working world or the creative world as an artist without knowing that I have centered priorities about my marriage and my children.”

“One of the reasons I chose to do Nobody Wants This is this show allowed me to shoot in Los Angeles, because I made a commitment when my girls were born not to take work outside of L.A. anymore. I have a priorities list and they are at the top of it—my husband and my girls. If I'm moving to Atlanta three times a year to shoot something, it's way too disruptive. So I said, ‘I'm only going to take work in L.A.’ When this show came across my lap, I was thrilled because it was also a great show.”

Kristin continues, “And the hours were doable. I was home at bedtime to put my girls down on Monday through Friday. Erin Foster, who is our creator, was pregnant the whole time we were shooting. I don't know if it was contagious, but four other girls became pregnant while we were on the show, one of whom was Justine Lupe, who plays my sister. The whole crew was looking out for the mamas of this show and making sure they were safe and not on their feet too much, and basically saying, ‘It is okay to prioritize ourselves as mothers and human beings,’ and let our creativity fold around that. That was my favorite part about this experience.”

The best advice she ever got… was from Cher

Kristen is smart, thoughtful and has a warm, easy laugh. During the conversation with WW , she’s quick to share words of wisdom she’s picked up along life’s journey, including advice from Cher.

“When I did the movie Burlesque , I asked Cher for her best piece of advice and she said, ‘If it doesn't matter in five years, it doesn't matter,’” Kristen reveals with a smile.

She has also learned not to be too hard on herself. “ What I’ve realized as an adult is that I don’t have to be perfect,” she says. “I just have to be better than who I was yesterday. ”

Kristen Bell reveals her secret to body confidence

All women battle insecurities, but becoming a mother has helped Kristen decide to keep hers at bay. “Even if it seems as though the most beautiful woman in the world has it all, I could pretty much guarantee you she has days where she looks in the mirror and sees a monster,” Kristen says. “That's just human nature. I once heard Brené Brown say, ‘You cannot give your children anything you don't have.’ I realized if I don't look in the mirror and say, ‘I love you, gal,’ then they can't do that. I can't expect them to. So I actually had to say, ‘This isn't for me. This is for them. Get it together, Kristen.’”
