What were the outfits of ‘Gilmore Girls’ like?

If you’ve never watched the show or just need a refresher on the outfits of Gilmore Girls, let us fill you in. The show premiered in 2000, but if you didn’t know this, you would be able to tell by the fashion. The early 2000s were known for classic denim (think jean jackets and low- to mid-rise jeans), cozy layering (like simple cardigans and zip-ups) and mismatched patterns, along with blazers, leather jackets and classic silhouettes. You see all this and more worn by Lorelai and Rory in Gilmore Girls. Since Rory attending Chilton — the preppy, snooty private school outside of town — was a major storyline of the show, we have to start off with her Chilton uniform. The plaid skirt was complete with a sweater vest and tie, as well as usually a blazer. We see Rory sporting this outfit in many of the episodes from the first few seasons.

Lorelai’s classic turtleneck

Lorelai Gilmore loved many things, from her coffee at Luke’s Diner to running the Independence Inn, but one fashion staple she loved is a good turtleneck. In this look, she’s wearing a simple, brown turtleneck layered under a leather blazer, and paired with a pencil skirt. It’s classic yet chic, and very Lorelai Gilmore.
