Talk about an unexpected celebrity duo! Pop icon Taylor Swift and Barefoot Contessa host Ina Garten share a surprising long-term friendship. Turns out the chef has a fun memory from backstage at one of Swift’s concerts, and it’s really sweet.
In a recent interview, Garten reminisced about being invited to an after-show party that Swift hosted for her crew. A friend suggested they play beer pong, and to Garten’s surprise, soccer star Abby Wambach joined in.
“As we went over there, Abby Wambach—who had just won the World Cup Championship for soccer—came over to me and said, ‘I'm going to be your advisor.’”

Ina Garten is a self-proclaimed ‘Swiftie’
As fun as the night was playing beer pong with Swift for Garten, it was the last time she has played the game. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t just as obsessed with the pop star.
“I’m crazy about Taylor Swift,” Garten shared. She also made sure to note she too was in line to get tickets to Swift’s sold-out ‘Eras Tour,’ but it wasn’t as easy as one might think. Garten shared that she had to go to great lengths to catch one of Swift’s shows.
“I'm going to be in Paris in May, and I thought, ‘Wait a minute, isn't she going to be in Paris in May?’ At 3:00 in the morning, I was online, seeing if I could get two good tickets, and I did.” But sadly, Garten got sick just before the show and had to back out.
The popstar and chef have known each other for nearly a decade
Beer pong wasn’t the first time Garten met Swift, as she recalled their first encounter, which was at a photo shoot for Food Network Magazine. They asked 10 pop stars to choose their favorite person from the channel, and Swift chose Garten.
“So, she came for a photo shoot for the day, and then we saw each other for a while afterwards,” Garten explained. “She invited me to lunch, and she came back for lunch one day in East Hampton. I just so admire her.”
Garten shared a photo of Swift and herself from the day, writing, “Just another day at the office - OMG cooking with Taylor Swift! Love her!!! @taylorswift.”

The feelings are mutual for Taylor Swift too
Swift’s feelings towards Garten are very similar. For the 20th anniversary of Barefoot Contessa, Swift expressed her admiration for Garten and recalled how the chef changed her perspective on cooking, turning it from a chore into a relaxing escape.
“I was in my teens, and my life revolved around touring. On my rare days off at home, I barely ever cooked because it had always felt like a chore.” But when Swift watched Garten cook, she learned how to turn it from a chore to a form of relaxation.
“Watching Ina prepare a meal changed my perspective on cooking and reframed it as something relaxing…She made cooking feel like self-care.” Now, the “You Belong With Me” singer cooks for her own enjoyment, rather than because she must do it. And Swift thanks Garten for giving her a new perspective.
