Divine Intervention: How a Stray Dog Delivered a Message From Heaven to a Grieving Mother

    By Maggie Dillard,

Less than a week had gone by since my daughter-in-law had passed away and my heart was still aching. I couldn’t believe she was gone. One morning, I was casually looking out my front door when I saw a big, old dog slowly walking along the sidewalk. I looked to see if there was someone with him, but he was alone.

Since I live on a busy street, I was concerned that he might go into the road and get hit by a car, so I went out and whistled to him. He came to me right away and was very friendly. But then I didn’t know what to do with him, so I called my son to come over.

We are both dog lovers and he has two of his own. He came right over with doggie treats and discovered that the dog had a tag on his collar. I had looked for one but was unable to find it because of the dog’s heavy coat. There was an address listed and we learned the dog’s name was Max. We were able to find a telephone number as well and, luckily, they answered right away.

The owner wasn’t even aware that Max had gotten out. They lived a few blocks away from me. That meant that Max had crossed several streets before he got to my house and I found him. Thankfully, he hadn’t been hurt.

We agreed to start walking him home with a bungee cord that I attached to his collar. We met Max’s owner a couple blocks away, and she thanked us very much for taking care of old Max.

When we got back to my house, it dawned on me that having Max appear was my beautiful daughter-in-law’s way of letting us know that, just as we got Max home safely, she was safely home in Heaven too.

She knew my love of dogs and that I would call my son to help me. It was amazing that I just happened to be looking out my door at the right time to get that heavenly message!
