    LATAM Amerigol Cup Opens In South Florida

    The LATAM Amerigol Cup is underway in Florida with eight teams competing for the 2024 title. Here's a look at the opening two days of the tournament.

    Day 1 Results

    To open the tournament Chile beat Lebanon 5-3. Mandy Manpoli, an alumni of NCAA DIII hockey at Nichols College scored twice for Chile to lead her team, including the game tying and game winning goals in the second period. Lebanon features a large roster for the tournament including the Eid sisters, Brie and Ava Eid who both play NCAA hockey - Brie Eid for the Division 1 Long Island University, and Ava Eid at Aurora University at the DIII level. Ava Eid scored a goal and an assist in the game.

    Argentina opened their tournament with a 5-1 win over Columbia. Angelina Bustos who will play NCAA DIII hockey this coming season at Wilkes University scored twice for Argentina. Ornella Caruso and Iara Haiek, who both play their club hockey in Spain each contributed with a goal and two assists for Argentina.

    The Caribbean fired 46 shots on goal in a 3-1 win over Puerto Rico in their first game of the tournament. Emma Deman who played for Stevenson University last season recorded two goals in the win.

    Closing out the opening day, Danna Ramadan pitched a shutout in net for Egypt who defeated Mexico 2-0.

    Day 2 Recap

    In the first game of the day, Argentina beat Mexico 12-0. As she ddi in the opening game, Angelina Bustos paced Argentina's scoring with two goals and three assists.. Alyssa Freer had two goals and two assists, while Mila Lutteral scored a hat trick, and Corrin Martinez, who once captained Michigan's Livonia United high school hockey team had two goals and an assist in Argentina's win.

    Following up their win on day one, the Caribbean beat Chile 11-3. Kianna Saillant led the way for Chile scoring two goals and five points. Saillant was a rookie last season in NCAA DIII hockey with Arcadia University. On a line with Worcester State University captain Katie Puumala who scored four goals in the game after recording more than a point per game last season at the NCAA DIII level, Saillant and Puumala were difficult to stop. The third member of their line, 16-year-old Meena Al-Kadiri had two goals and an assist in the win. Former UMass-Boston forward Katie Leffler factored in on each of Chile's goals scoring a pair herself in the losing effort.

    Puerto Rico and Lebanon tied 3-3 in the third game of the day. Ava Eid who just finished her fourth season of NCAA DIII hockey at Aurora University scored twice for Lebanon.

    In the final game of day two, Egypt beat Columbia 3-1. Sofia Polizzi who is set to play 19U 'AAA' hockey for the New Jersey Colonials this season was Egypts top performer with a goal and an assist.
