The Magnolias are out! Mini-Move and A bit of De-Crapping

Dear readers…what can I tell you. I am holding back my latest interview because I’m not cooking on all cylinders. Cooking? Or is it running on all cylinders? My point: I’m not able to spend the time I need to on my latest interview this week.

No, it’s not because I was watching the “ski crash trial.” Or, shopping “the look” on Goop. It’s in part because I moved studios and still need to paint and clean the new one and old one. That’s a time sensitive event, like putting out this newsletter. But you all are not going to bill me up the wazoo if I am not out of my space and the landlord will. So, you lose. Or, do you?

I wasn’t planning to move my studio. We JUST signed a new lease in January. But, a bunch of studios became available in the building. My studio-mate wisely saw we’d do better sales if we moved to a different part of the building. So, we are. I walked in on a Monday and left with a new space. Completely unplanned. I always say change is good. I believe that, unless it’s truly awful change. But, this isn’t!

We have been in the space for nearly 7 years. How did that happen? Imagine, we had built up a fair amount of cruddola in our current studio. For this kind of change, de-crapping, is good! I was always conscious of what I brought in and out of the studio. I wanted to be able to move myself and not bother anyone for help. That meant furniture on wheels from Ikea and the materials I needed for art and the art are what I have to move. So, to be honest, the move has not been bad.

But my smooth studio move made me think of my own home and moving from there. It would be hell. I have so much stuff. I have my grandmother’s stuff, my own, my husband’s, and we’ve discussed the kids’ stuff. The books alone would fill a truck. My mini move has prompted me to look into weeding out parts of my home stuff. Have you thought about this? Do you have off site storage? I do not. I have a basement full of toys, baby clothing, snow tires and on and on.

Thinking of de-crapping a whole house is overwhelming and stressful. If you aren’t actually moving, no need to freak yourself out. Then again, what about your parents? Oh, sorry. That’s a whole other conversation, but one that isn’t going away. I think we should all start a new holiday: Happy De-Crapping Day! No one gives anyone anything, but we get rid of bags of schtuff instead! We get a day off from work to do it. What do you think?
