Radio days: Wood County Museum hosts amateur radio operators
Ham radio operators are the unsung heroes of communication. If the grid goes down and telephones and internet no longer work, there’s always ham radio. That’s the philosophy behind Field Days, an international ham radio exercise sponsored by the American Radio Relay League to raise awareness about emergency communication procedures using temporary antennas and emergency power. Last week, several members of the Wood County Amateur Radio Club participated in the local version of Field Days at Wood County Museum. Bob Willman has been a ham radio enthusiast and member of the Wood County Amateur Radio Club since 1971.

Senior center to screen Eva Marie Saint interviews to open summer-long celebration of her 100th birthday
The Wood County Committee on Aging will pay tribute to Eva Marie Saint for her 100th birthday July 4th with three filmed interviews Monday,. July 1 at 1 p.m. at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St. She is the featured star for Friday matinees at 1 p.m. during July and August.
Wood County Sheriff's Office to increase patrols during July 4 weekend
BOWLING GREEN — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting increased patrolling from July 4 to July 7, the office said. Deputies will be on the lookout for drivers under the influence, those who are speeding, and drivers failing to yield, the sheriff’s office said. The office said there will be no tolerance for inebriated driving and seat belt violations. The increased presence is the result of grant funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, it said.
Flooding causes Toledo road closures during Wednesday’s Flash Flood Warning
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Drivers are facing challenges on Toledo-area roads Wednesday afternoon as water rises from the heavy rain. Parts of Lucas and Wood counties were under a Flash Flood Warning for most of the afternoon on June 26. Video from our news crews out in the city show particularly high water on Toledo’s east side.
2 Wood County men indicted for sex crimes against children
Two Wood County men have been indicted for sex crimes against children. Alex C. McMonigal, 39, of Wayne, was indicted for three counts of rape, all first-degree felonies. On or about Dec. 8-10, 2022; Sept. 10, 2023; and Oct. 2-31, 2023, he allegedly compelled a 13 year old to submit to sexual conduct by force or threat of force.
Wood County sending 21 athletes to State Special Olympics
Wood County Special Olympics athletes, coaches, and volunteers headed to Columbus on Friday to compete in the State Summer Games at Ohio State University. Wood County Special Olympics, better known as Wood County Wildcats, will have 21 total athletes attending State Games competing in track and field, bocce, and power lifting.
