Greek Fest, giant balloons and Goths: What to do in West Michigan this weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — School begins next week for many West Michigan students, so why not take advantage of the last free weekend with some of the awesome events in town?

Here is a look at what you can do the weekend of Aug. 16:

GR Greek Cultural Festival

Yassou! That means hello in Greek, which is perfect, because Grand Rapids is saying hello to the return of the Greek Cultural Festival this weekend.

Enjoy two days full of Greek cuisine, dancing, music and more at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Friday and Saturday.

Explore the Grand River this Saturday with the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

The Grand River Adventure gives guests a chance to check out the history of the West Michigan staple and learn about the efforts being made to preserve it.

Breakaway Music Festival

Friday marks the return of Breakaway Michigan 2024 to Belknap Park in Grand Rapids.

The music festival will bring in some major artists like Slander, Louis the Child and Marshmello.

One of the biggest wrestling events in West Michigan this year is happening at Coopersville Brewing Company this Sunday.

National Aviation Day at West Michigan Regional Airport

The West Michigan Regional Airport is celebrating National Aviation Day in style this Saturday.

Starting with a 5K, there is a full day jam-packed with activities for the whole family to enjoy. There will also be some free flights with the Young Eagles being offered.

For two days this weekend, there will be plenty to laugh about on the Michigan Lakeshore.

The Laughter On The Lakeshore Comedy Festival kicks off Friday afternoon and continues into Saturday with comedy acts taking the stage. There is also an after-party planned starting Saturday night.

The Muskegon Boat Life Adelaide Pointe Boat Show will offer attendees a unique experience all weekend long.

If you head down to Gull Meadow Farms this weekend, make sure you look up or else you might miss the exciting event coming to town this weekend.

The annual Kalamazoo Balloon Fest returns for an 11th year and will feature some outstanding hot air balloons floating in the sky. Admission is free.

Battle Creek Caribbean Festival

Spend your weekend pretending you’re in the Caribbean with the return of the Battle Creek Caribbean Festival.
