SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Green algae that is often mistaken for sewage has washed up on the beaches in South Haven.

According to the city’s Department of Public Works, the algae is called Cladophora. It is not uncommon in late summer and doesn’t pose a risk to human health

City staff members have been working to clear the shoreline, but the Department of Public Works said that more algae may continue to wash up over the next few days.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the South Haven Department of Public Works at 69.637.0737.
