Lego Store opens at Woodland to excited fans

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Lego fans lined up in Woodland Mall Friday to get inside the newest official Lego Store.

Kentwood city leaders gathered Friday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new shop.

“We’re excited to officially welcome LEGO to Woodland Mall,” the city said in a social media post . “Kentwood Mayor Stephen Kepley and Commissioner Clarkston Morgan attended today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Welcome to Kentwood!”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, excited customers waited in line to get into the store throughout the afternoon, with some fans waiting at least half an hour to get in.

The Lego store has a pick & build wall, a demonstration table and a spot where fans can build their own minifigure, along with plenty of Lego sets.

To celebrate the grand opening , Lego is offering promotions and a giveaway this weekend, including a free I <3 LEGO Store tote with purchases of $50 or more from Aug. 18 through Aug. 25.

The Lego Store inside Kentwood’s Woodland Mall is only the second in Michigan, according to the toy brand’s website , with the other one located in Troy near Detroit. West Michigan does have some unofficial Lego stores, including a Bricks and Minifigs location just a few minutes away from the mall.
