KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — A local junk removal company is making sure students are ready for the first day of school.

On Sunday, Rocks Trash Service held its annual back-to-school bash at the Sonesta Hotel in Kentwood.

During the event, 300 backpacks, school supplies and toys were available for free. There were also various games, vendors and raffles for the community to enjoy.

The owner of Rocks Trash Service says he’s happy to help students start school on the right foot.

“I grew up with the same backpack for the whole year, ripped backpack,” Ryan Johnson said. “And for me to help these kids out to go to school presentable and help the teachers out, too, so they don’t have to go out there and get it, that means a lot to us.”

This is the third year of the event.
