KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — After a “presumed kidnapping,” the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says a mother and her young children have been found safe and two people have been taken into custody.

Police responded Wednesday to the suspected kidnapping of a 27-year-old mother and her two children, ages 2 and 5, according to a release from KDPS.

“After an intensive investigation and coordinated efforts, we are relieved to report that the mother and her children have been found safe,” police wrote.

The two people taken into custody, whose names were not released Wednesday, were lodged at the sheriff’s office on several charges, according to KDPS. They are set to be arraigned later this week.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the community and our law enforcement partners for
their support and assistance throughout this critical situation,” police said. “The safety and well-being of the (mother and children) were our top priorities, and we are thankful that they have been safely returned.”
