GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a man was injured Friday when his brakes failed in Grand Haven Township, sending him through an intersection and into two other cars.

It happened around 1:50 p.m. at US-31 and Comstock Street, according to a release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

A 19-year-old Muskegon man was heading north on US-31 in a 2006 Yukon, the release says. According to the sheriff’s office, he tried to brake for the traffic light but his brakes failed.

Deputies say the man went through the intersection, hitting a car that was turning on to Comstock Street from southbound US-31, then hitting a car that was stopped at the red light on westbound Comstock Street.

The Yukon kept rolling and went into a parking lot, where it was able to stop safely, according to the sheriff’s office.

The release says the Muskegon man was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considering life-threatening.

The other drivers, a 75-year-old Grand Haven man and a 59-year-old Grand Haven woman, were not hurt, deputies say.
