WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Day two of the 28th Street Metro Cruise was packed with car lovers from West Michigan coming out for the event’s 19th year.
The season of driving with the top down and showing off old collectible cars will be wrapping up in the next few weeks once cooler weather arrives. This weekend, thousands of car enthusiasts are in Wyoming soaking up sunny, warm weather during Metro Cruise.
Rogers Plaza in Wyoming was dominated once again by the sights and sounds of everything automotive.
“This is a 1970 AAR ‘Cuda. It was built for the TransAm racing circuit back in 1970. This is one of the street-legal versions that they made,” said Val Grossenbacher, owner of Mopar.
Grossenbacher bought the vehicle as a high-schooler in 1978. He said only 105 exist in that specific blue color and that the unique engine and bodywork make it one-of-a-kind.
“Personally, I think it’s the rarest car here, but that’s just my opinion. There are a lot of beautiful cars here,” Rogers said.
The Metro Cruise, a two-day event, gives car owners and enthusiasts a chance to check out 340 show cars along the famous Collector Car Row.

“Just visiting some cool cars. Seeing the awesome old cars that we’ve never seen before … There was one that kind of looked like a spaceship, kind of like George Jetson-themed,” said Olivia Martinez.
“They don’t make cars like these anymore, so it’s really nice when you see so many that have been very well taken care of,” said Yolanda Vasquez.
Many are just enjoying convertible season while it lasts.
“No, no, we’re getting into the fall season. I was thinking that last night. It’s cold, I’m sitting on the porch with my firepit. So while these days are going, the sun is shining, get the Vitamin D in and come outside with your family. It’s a good day to be out and enjoy the West Michigan community,” said Jake Deleeuw, a vendor with All Weather Seal.
