MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A Muskegon ministry is aiming to make sure college students’ basic needs are met so they can focus on their schoolwork.

Muskegon Rescue Mission has partnered with Baker College to stock and run a student pantry on campus. It will be open 24 hours a day and students can use their student ID to get in.

Not only will there be non-perishable food items, but also hygiene products and even school supplies. All items are free and students can take as much as they need, Muskegon Rescue Mission said.

It also offers students gift certificates to use at its local thrift stores so they can shop for seasonal and career clothing.

“Food insecurity is a significant issue affecting many individuals, including college students. By working together, we can ensure our students focus on their academic success without the burden of hunger,” wrote Aaron Maike, vice president for Campus Administration and Engagement at Baker College, in a release.
