    Labor Day weekend brings cooler air into West Michigan

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Cooler, less humid but still comfortable weather is on the way for Labor Day weekend in West Michigan.

    FEW STORMS FRIDAY

    A cold front is set to sweep through Friday. The first batch of decaying showers and thunderstorms will roll through sometime after sunrise Friday, though the line will likely be non-severe. Still, gusty winds and heavy downpours will be possible, especially north of Grand Rapids.

    Additional development will be possible in the afternoon, though the threat will likely shift east of Grand Rapids. Any storms, both morning and afternoon, have a low-end chance of producing gusty winds.

    By Friday evening, dry weather behind the cold front. Most Friday evening football games in West Michigan will be dry.

    COOLER SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

    Behind Friday’s system, temperatures slip into the low 80s on Saturday followed by the mid-70s Sunday and Monday.

    The weekend should remain dry with sunny skies. A few isolated showers may pop Sunday afternoon inland. Most of West Michigan will stay dry.

    BEAUTIFUL BEACH WEEKEND

    The sunshine and cooler temperatures will have many flocking to Lake Michigan this weekend.

    Beach and Boating forecast: Aug. 29, 2024

    Out of all three days, Sunday will bring the most dangerous water conditions. With a northwest wind at 15 to 20 mph, wave heights may reach up to 5 feet in the afternoon. Expect some red flags to be flying at local beaches.

    Notice that temperatures continue falling throughout the weekend. By Labor Day, highs will be in the upper 60s. Temperatures look to remain seasonable, if not slightly cooler, into the first two week of September.
