WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man died of injuries he sustained when his motorcycle ran off the highway near Marne Tuesday night, deputies said.

He was identified Wednesday as Dirk O’Brien, 49, of the Marne area.

Just after 8 p.m., a Harley Davidson motorcycle was headed west on I-96 near 16th Avenue when O’Brien lost control and drove off the road, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said. First responders found the bike “well off the roadway” and the driver nearby.

O’Brien was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, deputies said. The sheriff’s office said it was informed Wednesday that he had died as a result of his injuries.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. Any witnesses should call the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office at 616.738.4000 or Silent Observer at 877.887.4536.
