WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An SUV crashed through one of the entrances of the Gun Lake Casino near Wayland.

The car crashed into the south side of the building near the Shkodé Chophouse and Craft Bar Kitchen, facing towards 129th Avenue, around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to a statement from the casino, it appears to have started as a domestic dispute between two patrons.

“One of those individuals ran her vehicle through the casino doors at the south entrance,” Gun Lake Casino Vice President of Marketing Carter Pavey said.

An SUV crashed through one of the entrances of the Gun Lake Casino near Wayland on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.

There were no reports of injuries, including to a security guard who was near the door when the crash happened or the driver’s apparent intended “male target.” The driver, a woman, was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The vehicle got 10 feet into the building and was removed from the building around 6 a.m.

According to the casino, both sets of doors were shattered and multiple slot machines were damaged.

The casino remains open, with only part of it closed near the entrance.

Pavey said the casino will reevaluate its security protocols to see if any changes need to be made.

“I think our systems and processes work. We’ll be evaluating additional bollards and really need to investigate how she got around the bollards in the first place,” he said.

“This is one of those things that you can’t necessarily prevent (or) you can plan for. We were very fortunate, lucky, that no one was injured. Our team did a great job of responding quickly to ensure that the scene was clear,” he continued.
