GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Heading into the last two months before the election, Republican state House members are unveiling an agenda they call the “Mission for Michigan.”

The 10-point plan lays out agenda items including “making Michigan more affordable” by cutting taxes, energy bills and housing costs, “preparing all kids for the future” with a return to the basics, creating an environment for more affordable energy, and prioritizing mental health, addiction and health care access, among other things.

The list is about setting priorities, particularly if Republicans could regain control in the House, which they lost two years ago .

Asked if the plan was more policy or politics, Rep. Bryan Posthumus, R-Rockford, said the two go hand-in-hand.

“My view has always been that great policy makes for great politics. And so, it’s 100% of both, right?” he said. “Every single one of those policy items in our ‘Mission for Michigan’ are focused and based on policies that will be better for Michiganders throughout the entire state of Michigan. Making life more affordable, giving better access to clean affordable energy. They are policies, policy agenda items that are focused on the policy not the politics — but again, good policy makes for good politics.”

Republican House members will be introducing the plan around the state starting Thursday.
