HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity intends to use a nearly $1.2 million grant to build new homes and fix existing ones, the organization announced Wednesday.

The $1,180,000 grant comes from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s MI Neighborhood program.

Lakeshore Habitat says it intends to use about half of the money to build homes in its Vista Green development in Holland, spending $600,000 in total to build six units.

Another chunk of money — $400,000 — will go toward its Critical Home Repair program. The program, which has a special focus on the city of Allegan, helps families stay in homes they already own by offering affordable repairs.

The final $180,000 will go toward administrative and operating costs, Lakeshore Habitat says.

“We are very excited to be recipients of the MSHDA MI Neighborhood grant,” said Lakeshore Habitat Executive Director Don Wilkinson in a release. “It helps us build more homes and affordably repair more existing homes, and that’s what we’re here to do.”
