GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An Ithaca woman accused of taking an all-terrain vehicle, a utility trailer and more from a vulnerable adult will stand trial, authorities say.

On Friday, Cheryl Colburn, 65, was bound over to trial in Montcalm County’s 8th Circuit Court on one count of embezzling $1,000 to $20,000 from a vulnerable adult, which is a five-year felony, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Attorney General. She was charged in July.

The AG’s office says Colburn was the victim’s guardian and conservator from 2021 to 2023, when the victim died.

“During this period, the Department alleges Colburn took items belonging to the victim, including a utility trailer, an Arctic Cat ATV, and a moped, to her personal residence,” the release says.

The items weren’t reported in accountings filed with the probate court, according to the office.

“Guardians and conservators are entrusted with a responsibility to protect and advocate for vulnerable adults in their care,” Attorney General Dana Nessel stated. “Unfortunately, some abuse this position of trust.”

Colburn is expected to appear in court later this month, according to the AG’s office.
